Hello! Welcome to Home Inspectors New York

I know it is an interesting name for a website but there is
logic for choosing this name which I think you will agree with.

When anyone buys a house they will usually have a home
inspection done before they buy it. They want to be sure there are no problems
they are not aware of. They will go to the internet and type in home inspectors
new york or the home inspector new york and search for a local professional
home inspector that will reveal problems in the home before they buy it.

I created this site not as home inspector but as a homebuyer.
I am looking at from someone who has bought my own home.

My home buying experience led me to see that my original
home inspector did not identify everything that could have been shown upfront.
That is why I had to go with a second one.

I am not going to speak ill of any home inspectors in New
York per say, but I will recommend one that I have faith in who is licensed,
insured and a member of the national association of home inspectors.

Home Inspectors New York

Every home in New York needs a good home inspector

I feel that way you will not have to go through the
experience that I did and you can have the peace of mind that your inspection
was done right.

In addition to this, I want to educate home owners on how
home inspections work and give you enough knowledge to confidently see if the
home you are buying has problems, or, if you are like most homeowners and would
not know where to look for home problems, make an informed decision should you
want to hire home inspectors in new york to tackle the job.

So, if you are in the process of buying a home or if you
plan to buy a home in the future, then this site is for you.

Before I got started I did not know how to tell if my piping
was not working properly of if my water pressure was too much or too little, if
my air conditioning components or hvac system was in need of repair, or if I
needed a new roof on the home I wanted to purchase, maybe you don’t either?

No worries! We will cover those things at Home Inspectors
New York. We will look topics like plumbing , heating and what should at the
minimum be on the home inspection checklist.

We will discuss what should go on the inspection checklist
items… You know, to protect you from the home inspector discussing things and
thinking that he does not have to explain them to you.

Most importantly though, this site will help you hire a New
York home inspector that is honest and professional.

The last thing you need is to have some incompetent home
inspector reviewing your house and using his standards. That would put your
family in danger should you move in based on his recommendation.

Also, the prices home inspectors charge for various
inspections is all over the board. You can get ripped off very easily when
hiring out home inspections because most homeowners have no idea what to look for
as a problem with a house … it is just not something we deal with very often.

And one word of warning. You cannot rely on an organization
like the Better Business Bureau to vouch for a company.

Most people are not aware of this, but the Better Business
Bureau
is not any type of official governing body like their name implies and
they are actually paid by the businesses they represent! Can you say conflict
of interest? It is a very eye opening story about the BBB that you might want
to check out.

It is also important that you know what organizations a home
inspectors should belong to like the National Association of Home Inspectors,
or NASI and what type of state contractor’s license they hold?

Is the owner of the company a Home Inspector or just a
guy/gal with a company who has run out of places to get fired from and started
his own business? If so, I doubt he/she has insurance and should something bad
happen to your home you may be in for quite a “shock”.

Most inspections should be in depth. Will your home
inspector make sure it is done that way? I could go on and on but you get the
picture.

Hopefully after spending a few minutes at my site, Home
Inspectors New York, you will be able to make an informed decision on whom to
hire for your home inspection or have the confidence that you will know what to
look for.

How Do You Tell If Your Home Will Need a New Roof?

In this section of Home Inspectors New York we will go over what to look for or what
your home inspector should be looking for.

One of the things home inspectors look for is a new roof.
The reason for this if you were to need a new roof it could be a rather
expensive item. The National Roofing Contractors Association or NRCA for short
recommends checking your roof twice a year in the fall and spring. Certainly
then when you are buying a new home that is one of the things to check out.

Some obvious things that you can spot on your own are things
like water damage or leaking, dark spots or if light is showing through your
roof. Let me explain each one.

If from the outside you can see there are parts of the roof
that are sagging by simply looking from a distance that is an indication that
you will more than likely need a new roof. Your home inspector should then be
telling you something that you will now already suspect in your own mind.

If you are able to see spots on the outside of the roof so
that the color is not similar to the rest of the roof again this is a clear
sign of needing a new roof. If you have light showing through the roof from the
inside this too is something you or a home inspector should pick up right away.

Also if there are trees growing near the house they can have
branches that reach over the home. If that is the case you may want to have
them trimmed and you would also check the roof for dark spots or moss that
grows as a result. This will weaken the roof and would lead a home inspector to
tell you that you require a new roof.

You can also look at your rain gutters for roof shingle
debris that may have washed into the gutter. If there are parts in there from
your roof that is a good sign that you would need to have those shingles
repaired, replaced or that your entire roof needs replacing.

It is interesting to
note that the boards that support the roof shingles play an important part as
well. My friend for example decided to use press wood rather than cedar when
replacing the roof boards in his roof. This was cheaper, however the estimate
is about eight years difference on the life of the roof. Though every roofer
and home inspector would differ on how much is saved by using real wood.

One of the main points in addition to looking for the clues
we have just described is the age of the roof of the home you are looking to
buy. If the roof is more than fifteen to twenty years old then even if the roof
is fixed it may be that you would in the near future need a new roof. Therefore
before buying the home you most certainly want to ask about the age of the
roof. Make sure your home inspector has covered this with you.

A roof is certainly important to any home; any new home
buyer would want to make sure that is sound. But having to spend on a new roof
when one is not prepared for it is not fair and that is where both an educated
buyer and a good home inspector can really help.

As we make our way on the home inspectors New York site in
terms of things to check for, plumbing is certainly up there in terms of things
we want to look at. I have seen enough toilets stuffed to know that this is the
case.

I have had my children throw everything and then some into
the toilet. My response is that before you buy a home you are going to want to
make sure that your plumbing has not issues. Here is a great article about
that.

Six Simple Plumbing Problems You May Be Missing

By Nigel Coates

Your plumbing system might appear to
be in perfect shape, for now, but it is strongly recommended to check regularly
for early signs of deterioration.

This article offers six small things
you should be checking. You’d surely be glad to catch the symptoms before it
gets worse. Fixing small problems is far easier than fixing large problems.

These faults may be well-hidden, but
negligence over these matters can be a cause of your worst plumbing nightmare.
While you do not need to contact your plumber at the onset, these six signs
will at least help you on your assessment.

Check the on the following:

1. Your bathroom and / or sink tiles should be in great shape.
Cracked, loose or hollow tiles may be caused (or an indication) of a leak
underneath. Replace them immediately, and don’t forget to resolve the cause of
its current state.

2.
All your drains should be quick to wash out. If it takes time for water to drain
on sinks and shower, it’s already a sign of clog. Note that bubbles can also
indicate problems.

Regular cleaning of the drains can
help you prevent more complicated problems in the future. Schedule bi-monthly
cleaning and checking for your water drains. This is to clear any sediment or
dirt build ups.

3.
Your toilet shouldn’t be rocking or moving. Try flushing every toilet stall and
check if it works well. Water should not run continuously after flushing, and
there shouldn’t be water on the floor or around the toilet.

4.
Always check the parts inside the tank of your toilet stalls. Are there any
parts missing, rusty or broken? Maybe it’s time for a replacement, or a visit
from your local plumbing authority.

5.
If you’re using a water heater, check the insides of the burner chamber. There
shouldn’t be any signs of rusting. You should also test the flames and take
note of its color. Yellow flames means that you may need to have the jet
cleaned.

6.
Double-check the state of your faucets. With the faucets on, check if there’s
any water going out of the valves and / or handles. With the faucets off, take
note of any leaks around the pipes.

Complying and checking with this
list occasionally may save you from more serious plumbing issues in the future.
Share this list with your plumber, and have a faster repair transaction.

Lastly, remember that maintenance
and prevention is the key for a stress-free, plumbing-friendly home.

In addition here is a great video on checking for hidden plumbing leaks. Every good home inspector should be doing this.

So I decided to recommend a home inspector in New York for you.  Yes I know that can be risky.

My highest recommendation is for a friend I know, who I trust as
a friend and as a professional home inspector in New York.

Whenever I needed a recommendation for anything I would call
him. A painter, he was there, a contractor yup that too.

When it comes to something like a house inspection you to make
sure you have someone you can trust. Someone who will give an honest answer and
will not steer you wrong. So when he went into the home inspection business I
knew that anyone who used him would be in good hands.

Now, I think he is pretty reasonably priced as well. Is he the
cheapest that there is, I do not know, but I do believe he is one of the very
best. He has a really great reputation around town and of course has my
recommendation as well. And I do not give out glowing recommendations easily!

He does a thorough job both on the outside and the inside of a
home.

He is an expert at seeing things other people cannot as I said, I
do not know if he is the cheapest person in town, but I do know he is WELL
WORTH IT!

Anyway, the fell that owns the company is named Steve Goldstein.
His company name is: Total Protection Home Inspection Inc.

You can’t go wrong with that company. Give him a call @

347-286-8253 and he will be happy to come out and give you an estimate and he
has a great reputation around town.
